Steve and Cheryl have humbly asked for your support during this trying season of life for them, as Steve is battling Stage 4 Liposarcoma Cancer. 17 years ago, Steve was originally diagnosed with this cancer, with a life expectancy of only a few years. Needless to say, God has been good and gracious (as He always is, as Steve proclaims) to extend Steve's journey here in the Bay Area.
Liposarcoma is a very rare and slow growing form of cancer. The cancer has become more aggressive, and does not seem to be slowing down. In response to the speed of the cancer, Steve is trying numerous trial procedures to slow down the quick progression. As Cheryl mentioned, "there is no known cure for this form of cancer, but Steve is willing to let his body be a guinea pig to try and help someone down the line, who may end up with this same type of cancer." We can all agree, Steve is finishing his race well!
The reason for this site is to help relieve some of the financial burden for the Comfort family. Steve currently has health insurance to cover the medical expenses, but financially speaking, that is about all their moderate income is able to support. Steve taught at Berean Christian High School for the past 22 years, and was hoping to work another 5 years to have his social security kick into effect, but because of the cancer, he was unable to continue working, and thus, the family carries a financial deficit, as they go through this season of life.
Steve and Cheryl have stated $500-$1000 a month would take care of their fluctuating financial burdens at this time, so please consider giving back to this gracious family, as Steve has modeled humility and grace to his students and the local church over the past several decades!
