Comfort Doryen's family needs you now!
On June 14, 2021 shocking news came to StreetNet about the unexpected death of our beloved Sister Comfort Doryen, a great Woman and a powerful leader of Federation of Petty Traders & Informal Workers’ Unions of Liberia!
A strong advocate for the rights of street vendors, Sister Comfort, pioneered the negotiation of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with municipal authorities in Liberia. In addition, she was instrumental in championing the rights of petty traders and other workers in the informal economy. She founded the National Petty Traders Union of Liberia (NAPETUL) which today is the formidable Federation of Petty Traders & Informal Workers’ Unions of Liberia (FEPTIWUL).
As an international leader, Sister Comfort was forceful and decisive—firm in advocating for street vendors. She represented the sector in many international conferences like the World Urban Forum and the 2016 HABITAT III international congress, where the New Urban Agenda was adopted.
She served one and a half terms as an elected member of the StreetNet International Council, where she was a forceful and strategic decision-maker. She has left an indelible stamp on all who knew her in the StreetNet family.
Following her untimely passing, Comrade Comfort’s family has had to bear the high costs of medical expenses, repatriation of Comfort’s body from Ghana and the funeral.
We have prepared this fundraiser to support Comfort’s family members and to express our solidarity with our Sister’s loved ones.
