Our Mission/Adoption Adventure

Donation protected
After starting our domestic adoption journey several years ago, we never would have guessed that it would happen once we moved half-way around the world and had put that dream on hold.

We had recently begun accumulating paperwork to begin the adoption process here in Thailand where we serve as missionary teachers.  We had already gotten our FBI background checks and other documentation that we might need for this process.  Good thing we had, because just one week ago we were contacted about a young woman who is in a very difficult situation and needs someone to adopt her soon-to-be-born baby, or else the decision of who raises her child will be out of her hands.  She wants an open adoption but the circumstances might not be an ideal fit for some possible families.  So the same friend who introduced us to our daughter's biological mother thought that we might be willing.  And of course, we will try to do everything we can to give a loving home to a child in search of one while allowing his first mother the chance to remain a part of his life.

So we made some inquiries to see if it was even a possibility, and were met with a surprising 'yes.'  So we set the wheels in motion by collecting the rest of our paperwork, contacting an adoption lawyer, and quickly completing a 57 page questionnaire so we could set a date for our home study (next week).  All of this has happened in one week, and our heads are still spinning.

Oh, I almost forgot to say the craziest part - This precious little boy is expected to arrive in 3 weeks!  So we will have to make arrangements for our mission, and buy tickets for our family to fly back to the U.S. so we can be there to take a placement immediately following his birth.

As missionaries in Thailand we keep a pretty tight budget, and don't have the kinds of funds necessary to pick up and fly around the world, complete the home study, pay lawyer fees, and purchase all of the necessities for an unexpected baby.  We don't want to have to leave the mission field to make this happen, which we would if we cleaned out our accounts for this adoption.  We feel a strong call by God to proceed with this, and believe there is a way to provide both a loving home for this new baby and to stay on the mission field, where we believe God is calling us to be.

Please help us make this happen, and play a HUGE part in providing a home for a child where he can grow up having an ongoing relationship with his birth family and help us continue our mission of bringing Christ to northern Thailand and teaching missionary kids whose parents are doing the same.

The money we raise will be used to purchase 3 plane tickets from Thailand to America and 4 return tickets, pay for our home study and lawyer fees, purchase a new passport and visa for the baby, as well as purchase the items needed to care for a newborn. In the event that the adoption falls through, we can refund all donations, Any amounts we may get beyond our goal will be used toward our mission in Northern Thailand.  If you would like to join us as partners in our mission as our monthly expenses increase from expanding our family, you can do so at: https://rceinternational.webconnex.com/29905

We cannot thank you enough for allowing God to use you to do His work of building families and sharing His son with the world.
