Educational Development Trip - Uganda

Hello all!

I hope this message finds you in good health and happiness. Thank you for visiting this page!

This summer, I have the incredible opportunity to travel to Uganda to work with Pangea Educational Development (PED) in changing lives through education.

PED is an organization working to create sustainable programs that seek to provide an education to empower students to be the change leaders in their own lives and the communities they live in. PED uses a system of microfinancing that is working to virtually eradicate poverty in the targets while unifying communities and impacting countless individuals. This organization is different from others of its type. PED focuses on establishing programs that will benefit these students, schools, and communities in the future without creating a dependent relationship. This works on a couple different levels. Not only does this practice maximize the potential for empowerment but it allows the programs to sustain themselves after PED lends its hand. Then PED can confidently leave the program and focus their resources on helping more people.

If I raise enough funds to travel with this wonderful organization, I would have the opportunity to work with four different schools in Uganda. Among the projects worked on this summer will be the digging of a well to provide fresh water to students and generate income for the school, the expansion of a pre-existing chicken coop that provides practical skill building for children in a remand home and income for the home, and the construction of a female dormitory at a male-dominated school so that young girls have the opportunity to be lodged safely on campus, rather than walk up to ten miles a day through dangerous neighborhoods just to get to school.

I invite you to visit PED's website at pangeaeducation.org and watch their mission video here to learn more about the projects.

The problem I face is the means to do this.

Simply speaking, this trip entails two major costs: program fee and airfare. The program fee covers housing, food, and a general contribution for the supplies needed to make these projects happen. For a four-week trip, the program fee is $2000. In addition to this, I need to pay for airfare. Generally, a round trip will cost from $1000 to $1800. This adds up to a rather daunting total of $3000 to $4000 in expenses.

All that I ask is that you consider donating just $1. I cannot stress enough that every little bit gets me $1, $5, $10 closer to taking action against poverty and empowering students in Uganda. Of course, this is not to say that I am refusing larger donations, but I'm not asking for piles of money. Anything you can give would be immensely appreciated.

I am asking you, my friends and family, to make a small motion in order to enable this larger movement to improve the lives of those less fortunate.

Help raise my hand with PED.

peace and love from the depths of my heart,

Colum
