Colton Smith is a bubbly, personable thirteen year old from Blyth, Ontario. For the last ten years, Colton has struggled daily with an unexplainable medical issue that affect his quality of life. More recently it has become very apparent that his symptoms have increased in both frequency and severity. Colton has undergone several tests including: MRIs, EEGs, Aniograms, genetic testing, ST scans, and a spinal tap. Dispite all of this nothing has shown up in any results to give us any answers.
Colton's Doctors' are baffled, and we are frustrated and scared. His school teachers' are noticing that Colton is regressing and getting worse. His daily symptoms include: off-balance gait, sudden loss of the use of his legs, migraine headaches that lead to stroke-like sympotms; face drooping, loss of speech, double vision, and loss of motor control. These symptoms can last for hours and are an almost daily occurence in Colton's life.
His doctors' have exhausted all medical testing available here in Ontario, and because of the lack of results from previous tests they are at a loss. Toronto Sick Kids refuses to see him. We are desperate for answers to help Colton. An application with all of Colton's previous health history and test results were sent to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. They have agreed to see Colton as they have additional medical testing not available here in Ontario.
We are fundraising to help cover the cost of this visit to the Mayo Clinic, which is going to cost approximately $17,000 - $20,000, plus accomidations for us. This is a huge financial burden for our family, but we are not going to give up as this is the last option we have to help Colton. We are praying that the Mayo Clinic will be able to provide us with answers and a possible treatment for Colton. It is time that he be able to live as normal childhood and life as he can, without the worry of his medical issues plaguing him. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
