<div>Hi my name is Laura and I am helping Cole Whyte and his parents Bill and Karen rebuild his life at home after an unexpected and life altering medical crisis. At just 22, Cole survived a massive brain aneurysm, seven surgeries, 8 months in hospital and now he's coming home. Your support will help his parents provide the 24-hour care, rehab, and equipment he needs to recover.

<div>In early April 2025, 22-year-old Cole — full of excitement for his new job and the future ahead — suddenly collapsed from a ruptured brain aneurysm. He was airlifted to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, where doctors fought to save his life in an emergency surgery.

<div>That was only the beginning. Cole went on to have many complications with his recovery resulting in six more life saving brain surgeries, including bilateral balloon angioplasty which ultimately lead to a stroke across his pre frontal cortex , a bilateral craniectomy (removal of left and right skull bones called bone flaps) to accommodate for severe swelling in his brain, damage to the Hypothalamus, placement of a shunt to drain cerebral spinal fluid from his brain, and brain injury responsible for spasticity in his limbs requiring Botox and other muscle relaxing medications to loosen the muscles enough so he can move his limbs.

<div>It's an absolute miracle that Cole survived, but he was left with severe physical and cognitive disabilities, and, by the Grace of God, Cole is here to tell his story.
</div>

<div>Recovery Continues
</div>
<div>After months in the hospital and countless complications, Cole began his rehabilitation this past September and he is now heading home at the end of November to continue a lengthy outpatient course of rehab for the foreseeable future.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While going home is a major milestone and a welcome change, it also comes with challenges:
</div>
<div>•	They are moving from full staff support to their home environment meant for unassisted living.
</div>
<div>•	Cole is wheelchair-bound and cannot toilet himself, cannot feed, bathe, or dress himself.
</div>
<div>•	His left arm does not function, so he cannot push or pull himself up with two arms.
</div>
<div>•	For Cole to eventually walk with assistance, he will require orthopedic surgery on his lower left leg that was damaged during severe storming episodes that caused immobile muscle tension and rotation of his entire left foot.
</div>
<div>•	He will continue to require Botox treatments for life to reduce stiffness and improve movement in his limbs.
</div>
<div>•	The stroke has left him with cognitive challenges, including issues with reasoning, problem solving and higher thinking.
</div>
<div>•	He will require extensive ongoing physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
</div>
<div>•	Finally, new MRI images have just confirmed that the replacement of Cole’s right and left bone flaps (skull) are deteriorating due to artificial joint failure and will quite possibly require another surgery to replace the sides of his skull with prosthetic material.

<div>Doctors have even suggested that Cole move into a nursing home, permanently — but his parents are determined to bring him home, where he belongs.
</div>

<div>Against all of these odds, Cole is making wonderful progress:
</div>
<div>•	Cole is able to communicate somewhat effectively
</div>
<div>•	He has full memory of his previous life and his short-term memory has drastically improved.
</div>
<div>•	He now has the abdominal strength to sit on his own with supervision.
</div>
<div>•	He needs help to stand and can’t walk yet, but he has taken his first step— albeit a shaky one.
</div>
<div>•	He is relearning math and improves daily on problem solving activities.
</div>
<div>•	Cole’s personality and wonderful sense of humour are shining through

<div>Cole’s spirit and determination inspire everyone around him — especially his devoted parents, Bill and Karen, who have never left his side since that terrible day.
