https://www.facebook.com/karaalan.colburn We want to grow our family!

What's our story?

Our life is about Faith...Family...Friends...

We both grew up in families with a strong commitment to Jesus Christ and as young adults we made personal decisions to believe in and follow Jesus, His teachings and the principles in the Bible.  We believe His teachings all come down to one underlying theme:  Love Him and Love Others.  In our personal lives, our marriage, our families, our friendships, our work...we believe everything comes from Him and is for Him.

We both grew up in the same small town, have spent time away from home in our young adult years, and are currently in our hometown close to family.  We have many nieces and nephews and love our roles as Aunt KK & Uncle Alan.

We spend our time outside of work with our family & friends, and because of our close connection in our church, we consider them to be family.  We have made lifelong connections within our church that we believe make us better people, in our marriage, our family, our work, and community.

We both work in Social Services.  Alan works in the mental/behavioral health field, helping mentally ill adults live independent, healthy lives.  Kara works in a women's home that provides housing for women/children who have been abused, or abandoned.  We both really believe in our work and believe we have a responsibility to help care for those in need, both personally and professionally.

The concept of adoption is important to us for both spiritual and practical reasons.  As Christ followers, we understand the great privilege we have as being adopted into His family.  He chose us to be His children, gave us a place to belong.  The Bible says in the book of Ephesians, chapter 1 verse 5:  "God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure."  In the Old Testament of the Bible, both Moses (the book of Exodus) and Esther (the book of Esther) were adopted and grew to be strong leaders and men/women of God.  The personal responsibility we believe we carry to adopt a child is birthed out of what amazing love we have been shown through Jesus.  We talked about adoption while we were dating and knew then that it would be part of our journey to parenting, not as a Plan B but because of our strong belief in God's purposes and plans in choosing us to be His children.

As parents, we believe our highest calling will be to rear children to be followers of Christ.  Along with godliness, we believe our home should be the most ultimate place of safety...physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual... for a child to learn and grow into adulthood.

Because of the work we have chosen, our annual salaries are not lucritive.  We are hoping to adopt in the United States and would love for you to be part of this journey with us.

Thank you for taking the time to read about us and what God is doing in our hearts.
