On Oct 20th one of our dearest friends and coworkers was in a motorcycle accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County CA. Cody is a sales associate at ORANGE COUNTY HARLEY DAVIDSON---We are trying raise money for Cody and his family to assist with household bills - baby expenses for his first baby due in Feb. And for any medical expenses he might have. Due to the extent of his injuries it's unknown when Cody will be able to return to work. We want his family to only focus on Cody getting better.
1. What happened? - Cody was out on a ride with one of his closest friends and was cut off by a vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway. The vehicle came to a sudden stop leaving no room for Cody to escape. Cody’s body absorb the full impact of the collision thus sustaining the following injuries – A Moderate concussion, a fractured Clavicle and sternum, a total of 7 broken ribs- both of his lungs are collapsed and have caused a mild case of pneumonia- He has chest tubes in to assist with breathing as well as draining the blood from the trauma sustained to his lungs- There are lacerations to his spleen, Kidneys and Liver, and he has compound fractures in both arms. He has multiple broken bones in his hands and fingers and Lastly he has multiple fractures to his neck and middle back. However, Cody was wearing a full face helmet and this helmet in its entirety saved his life protecting his skull and brain. Cody is currently being medically sedated at this time and remains in critical condition.
2. How are they helping him? Cody is currently being medically sedated to give his body time to recover and rest from the trauma. He has currently undergone 11 hours of surgery to repair the damage done to both of his arms as well as an exploratory surgery to check the trauma to his organs. Tomorrow (Friday 10-23-15) Cody will undergo another 6+ hour surgery to repair the injuries he has suffered to his back.- Cody will be in the recovery unit for an addition 3 + hours and then will be take back to the ICU- After this surgery we will wait for more updates on his body.
3. How can I help? The family is incredibly grateful for everyone’s concern and willingness to help. At this time they have requested that no visitors come to the hospital due to the severity of Cody’s condition. Cody is still critical and in the ICU- The family and doctors want to keep his stimulation down as much as possible to increase the power of healing. We have currently set up a meal train to assist with getting meals to the family. Also we are collecting donations to assist with any expenses the family may have at this time as well as future house hold, Medical, and baby expenses. Cody’s baby is due to arrive in February 2016.
4. WHAT ELSE?- After speaking with Cody’s family they stated that Cody was very passionate about spreading the word of motorcycle awareness. This accident could have been prevented if there was more awareness for motorcycles on the road-HELP US bring motorcycle awareness to the front pages and on your tv. Cody was continuously educating others on the importance of a full face helmet, why he chose to wear one, and why he would never ride without one.
