Lift Up Daughters w/Moms in Prison

HELP SUPPORT A PHENOMENAL SUMMER PROGRAM FOR DAUGHTERS OF INCARCERATED WOMEN IN BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS

Families for Justice as Healing (FJAH) and Youth Against Mass Incarceration (YAMI), both organizations working to reduce incarceration and shift from prisons to community resources that help people to heal and advance their lives, have joined together to provide a phenomenal summer program for high school age daughters of incarcerated women in Boston, Massachusetts. The goal is to empower the young women from within their experience, encourage leadership in the movement for prison justice, and support each other in sisterhood.

The summer program will provide an incredible opportunity to six young women, ages 14-18, whose mothers are incarcerated. Youth Against Mass Incarceration will teach a six-week curriculum with a focus on community organizing in the area of alternatives to incarceration, healing circles, and, in partnership with the South End Technology Center, learn aspects of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). The participants will acquire skills in computer coding, digital design and fabrication, and physical programming. The facilitators of this summer program are all young adults, some of whom have dealt with parental incarceration, or other family members behind bars.

Our 2015 summer program begins in July and participants will receive summer job stipends through Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD).

WE ARE SEEKING YOUR SUPPORT to fund operational expenses for this program including:

- A comfortable, safe space to house the summer program

- Healthy breakfast and lunch for the participants

- On-site supply of health and sanitary products

- Materials / supplies for workshops and activities

- Summer stipends for our YAMI program facilitators.

- The facilitators have volunteered to staff the summer program however our goal is to also provide them with fair compensation for their work and time committed to this program.
