Coast to Coast for MAES & LOROS

Why Do This ? ….

To acknowledge reaching a certain age this year,  I decided to do something to actively worthwhile and to support these two completely different but highly deserving causes:

·       MAES Therapy  – highly specialised therapy for babies and children with Cerebral Palsy and similar neurodevelopmental conditions.

·       LOROS Hospice  – providing high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers via LOROS Hospice.
 
So I have joined the famous Alfred Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk organised by a dear friend Adrian Walker who organises a number of challenging walks around the UK each year in his role as Senior Fundraiser for the amazing LOROS Hospice.
This will be the first time I have undertaken a long distance walk, so it is a personal challenge to trek nearly 200 miles (approx. 300 Km)  from the Irish Sea, across the North of England to the North Sea.

The 192 mile route to be completed over 13 full days is challenging and takes us through the hills and mountains of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the remote North Yorkshire Moors.
Will I make it?

I’m funding my costs of this 2-week trek myself -  so every penny raised from the generosity of my sponsors will go equally to these incredibly valuable and needed causes which have such an impact on quality of life.

About MAES Therapy
MAES Therapy International  offers Treatment and Training:

·       Treatments Sessions -  at the MAES Therapy Studio located near Finchley, North London.
Early intervention & specialised treatment for babies and children with neurodevelopmental conditions and movement disorders.

·       Training Courses - in the UK and worldwide. 
To train paediatric Therapists ( Physiotherapists,  Occupational Therapists and  Speech & Language Therapists ) who want further specialise in children with CP and similar neurodevelopmental conditions and gain expert clinical reasoning and treatment skills.
 
MAES Therapy is a highly specialised treatment approach for babies, children and adults with Cerebral Palsy and similar neuro-developmental conditions and movement disorders.

MAES Therapy looks at what is influencing a child’s movements and behaviour. This includes looking from the child’s perspective and how they’ve learnt to understand, experience and interact with the world around them. We analyse their movements and identify what may be influencing their development now and in their future.
Therapy utilises specific, highly-skilled handling techniques to guide movement, cognition and play in order to take the child on a path of learning new skills and maximising their potential.

MAES Therapy aims at providing the child with a path of experience and development that doesn’t focus on the short-term achievement of tasks or working through sets of developmental milestones. Instead, MAES works to create the foundation to reduce the ‘atypical’ development in the long term and open the possibilities for different and better outcomes. 

Early intervention is beneficial when considering the future development of babies and very young children with neurodevelopmental conditions or developmental delay. 
It is never too late to intervene, however the earlier you do so, the more you can influence the child’s future development for the better.

About LOROS

LOROS  delivers free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers.  They deliver care that is special and unique to each individual.

LOROS Hospice is a local charity and every year they care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The care they provide:
Specialised care for those over 18 with complex problems who are suffering from a terminal illness when cure is no longer possible
Short-stay inpatient care for symptom management — with help, half of these patients go home
Outreach support in the patient’s home
Palliative day therapy.
 
The services they provide: 
All of LOROS services are provided free to adult patients and their families.
The care provided is tailored to the needs of each patient.
They help people living with cancer and other terminal illnesses.
They also provide support for carers.
Care is provided both at the Hospice and in patients' own homes.
