Ghana Spring 2014: Close Your Eyes

Donation protected
We want to challenge you to close your eyes and help: yes close them. Read on for updates and news on our work in Ghana, then close your eyes to see how you can help.

First, thanks all of our friends and family who made our last trip a success. We raised over $22,000 prior to our departure to Ghana. Once we landed, we found another need with the Story of Cecilia, with your help, we raised another $1500 for her surgery. What a blessing that trip was; the Lord provided for so many things.

Our last trip to Ghana
One mission of or last trip was to begin creating independence with some of our projects. Our mantra is "you can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, if you teach a man to fish, he will eat for a life time", our mission is to teach people to "fish". On this trip we kicked off a chicken farm, our first batch of 100 chickens was delivered on January 16th, 2014. By bringing chicken farming to the ministry in Ghana we are able to create a plan of independence, from The Fern Foundation, and to themselves and what the Lord does through them. These chickens will begin laying eggs around the middle of April, approximately 3 months of age, and will lay for approximately 2 years. Over the course of those 2 years, each chicken will lay approximately 700 eggs, if 80% of our chickens survive, that will be 56,000 eggs. Each egg will sell for $0.25, if we sell have of the eggs, and use the other half for feeding the children at Orphanage, they can make enough money to continue the farming, buy extra food for children, and expand the farm. We are so excited about this, and what God is going to do through this next step.

Our work until now
We have supported Deliverance Nursery and School in Chorkor for the past 3 years. Our goal is to feed the children one meal a day free of charge to them. We are currently able to provide their education for free, which is not typical in Ghana. With that, we want these children to be able to retain as much of the information that we are giving them, and having a full stomach helps with this endeavor. We were able to feed these children for 3 months of the year, but we want to feed them every school day. This mission costs about $1000 a month. Additionally, the current location of the school includes enough land to build a new school, a church, and medical center for the people of Chorkor. The plan for adding these buildings has been the making for longer than we have been involved, but now we are seeing expedited opportunities and movement in the planning. The time is now to rise up to care for this community, to show them the love of Jesus. The children are being educated and cared for in a loving Christ-centered environment. We want to begin the development of this property, and begin raising money to do so. The first step is to clear the property. In order to do so we will need $1500 to hire a bull-dozer to clear and level the land and begin preparing to build. The next step is to build a wall around the property approximately 6 feet high, to enclose the space where the school, church, and medical center will stand. $5000 is needed to construct this wall of safety and security. The construction of the 3 buildings will occur over the course of a few years, starting with the construction of the new church.
Addo Ministries is a husband and wife team who are ministering to the spiritual needs of people in the rural areas of Ghana, most recently Gomoa. Over the past 3 years we have worked with the ministry to purchased two plots of land in the city of Amasaman. These plots of land will hold the home of Pastor Ernest, his wife Comfort, and family as well as a church and community center. The land is currently undeveloped, at this time we are looking to clear the land for development, this will cost approximately $1500. Building the church and their home will, hopefully, come soon after.
Here is the plan for the next mission trip to Ghana!!!!!!
We will continue to develop the farming to support three areas: Deliverance Nursery and School, Assurance of Hope for the Needy (children's home), and Addo Ministries. We are in the process of acquiring land for farming outside of the capital of Accra. This land will be used to raise livestock and farm corn and other agricultural products. We want you to see the land being cleared while we are there in Ghana, we plan to use our team to help in this hands-on work.

Now, close your eyes. What do you see? Create your own visions from the information we have shared.
Children, land, and animals.
Orphans, widows, families in need.
Farms, schools, hospitals, churches, community centers.

How can you support us in those visions?
Based on the list above we need to raise $30,000 for this trip to continue with projects we have started and keep them moving forward. We have another donor challenge! The challenge is to match $10,000. We have until March 31st to raise these funds.
