I am participating in a fundraiser for Christie Lake Kids (CLK) this August 2018. You can read more about the trip itself here.
CLK is a wonderful organization that is transforming the lives of children and youth who face socioeconomic and other barriers to accessing after-school and summer recreation opportunities such as camp. Both of my uncles went to CLK Camp as young boys. I've been told those were some of the best summers of their lives. I've also worked at numerous camps at CLK over the years and have seen the impact first-hand. Children and youth simply blossom at camp. So why the GoFundMe page? I'm looking to fundraise to help subsidize my trip fees (roughly $6000 + equipment) as I myself also live below the poverty line as a full-time student.
So why am I doing this trip? School has been my main priority since graduating high school, so I haven't really been able to afford to travel much, but I can't think of a better reason to make it a priority than in support of CLK youth. I'm hoping that with the help of my community, I can not only raise funds for CLK (see link above in bold), but that I can *also* get some help to go on this life-changing journey myself! It takes a village, after all!

I spent a birthday of mine working at "Boys-Only" Camp; fellow staff and campers surprised me with a birthday cake! You could say I was tickled pink. <3
