Hi, our names are Sasha Callaway (age 12), Adriana Hong (12) and Isabella Hong (age 12) and we are the founding members of the Yellow Eyed Devils Juniors “Clean Our Waters” campaign.
“Clean our Waters” is a campaign that focuses in raising awareness among kayak fishermen and local businesses to help reduce the pollution of our oceans.
Over 300 million tons of plastic is produced globally each year and only about 10% of that is recycled. Of the non-recycled plastic, it is estimated that approximately 7 million tons end up in the sea each year.
In May 2017, with the support of local businesses and the event coordinators, we’ve successfully ran our first “contest”. Jamaica Bay Kayak Fishing Classic is NYC’s largest catch and release kayak fishing tournament with over 300 registered anglers and the response has been amazing.
Our contest was quite simple, to motivate the registered kayak anglers to collect flotsam and trash during the course of the tournament. Local businesses sponsored us with the prizes for the three contestants who contributed the most in our campaign.
We are proud to say that our first event was a huge success as were able to collect over 1300 lbs of trash and flotsam from the Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge during the 3 days of the event!

Our next event is at the New England Kayak Fishing Striper Shootout XI this coming August. We are now 7 members strong with 4 new friends joining us in our efforts.
Our goal is to continue this effort and spread awareness to kayak anglers and the communities. With your support, we would love to accomplish the following:
Portable Recycling Bins
We want to use these reycycling bins to our events to help prevent the plastic waste from going to our landfills and oceans.
Campaign Costs
Banners, Prints, and Posters helps us a ton in raising awareness.
Eco-Friendly Products
The amount of plastic and styrofoam disposable products produced in one of these events is shocking! We want to provide eco-friendly solution by providing bio-degradable products in these events and show the community that there is a more responsible option out there.
Bio Degradable Collection Bags
We hate to use plastic to collect plastic. We want to use the best option out there to help clean the environment with as little impact as possible.
We would love to continue our efforts all year round and to expand to other communities around the country.
