Clean, Fresh Water in Lagos, Nigeria

Lagos is the most famous state in Nigeria. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (2017), there are 12,550,598 residents living in Lagos. The population in Ikorodu is estimated to be over 700,000 (NBS, 2017). A significant problem faced by residents in Idumogun, Ikorodu is insufficient access to clean water. Nigeria’s surface source of water includes “creeks, lagoons, and the Atlantic Ocean,” and groundwater (Obiora & Onwuka, 2015). Contributing factors to water scarcity include environmental pollution and politics. Contamination from chemicals, trash, and bodily waste has made surface water less favorable drinking water. Digging a borehole is cost-effective due to a decreased risk of pollution, and it only requires a power supply for continued water production.  As a result, drilling a borehole will help alleviate one of the problems faced by her residents. Benefits of having clean water include decreased incidence of typhoid, cholera, hepatitis A, and other water-borne infections.   The involvement of the local community leaders is required in other to ensure that this project runs efficiently. Volunteers residing in Idomogun will meet with community elders and discuss the project's objectives. Funds will be allocated through donations from the public. Funds are designated entirely for this project, its maintenance, and continuity. In other to ensure accountability of money generated contributions is through gofundme website.  Together with the help of donors and volunteers residents in Idomogun can have clean drinking water.
