Clarke Baby IVF Fundraising

We were married on September 27^th, 2008, and like most newlyweds, we were super excited to finally start a family of our own. We started reading baby books, discussing themes for a nursery, and researching the meaning of different names. We thought it would be easy, but, alas, no baby.


Months went by, and we heard the standard suggestions to take a vacation and just relax, so we used up any vacation time and started yoga. We tried diets and cleanses, acupuncture, chiropractic treatments, energy therapy, herbs, increasing our exercise, naturopathic medicine, massage therapy, avoiding certain foods, eating lots of other foods-----if you've heard of it, we tried it! Yet, still no baby.


Years went by, and we increased our Baby Dream Team by joining forces with the fertility department at our local children's hospital and a wonderful Reproductive Endocrinologist, who made us laugh when all we wanted to do is cry. After an official diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) we turned to various pharmaceutical drugs, and the physical side effects caused Tiffany to become violently ill and spend several days in the emergency department. Yet, still no baby.


More years went by, and the pain of our missing child grew stronger and constant. Our RE Doctor decided that it was time to take things further, and after numerous painful tests, Tiffany spent her 27^th birthday in surgery and received a horrible birthday "present"---an official Endometriosis diagnosis, and the knowledge that it would be even more difficult for her to become pregnant.


Six years into this journey and we have now been advised that IVF is the method we will need to use to finally complete our family. Seems easy, right?


Unfortunately, although treatments are currently covered in Ontario, New Brunswick, and Quebec, the government of Nova Scotia does not cover fertility treatments at this time. Moving to another province is not an option, as not only would we have no income, we would lose the necessary emotional support of our family and friends.
