Help Clara to Study Abroad in Japan
Donation protected
Last summer I received a research grant for a three week teaching and travel trip to Japan. I am now planning to spend a semester in a study abroad program at Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies. I have estimated that it will cost about $12,000 for the semester. I have received about $6,000 in loans and so I need another $6,000, which is why I'm asking for your help.
Why Japan?
I'm double-majoring in Anthropology and Humanities with a minor in Asian studies. I've had three semesters of Japanese and am an officer in CSU, Chico's Japanese club. I intend to continue studying Anthropology in graduate school, where I will work toward writing a dissertation about human-animal relationships within Japanese culture. I realize that human-animal relationships within Japanese culture is a rather broad subject to cover and would like to use my study abroad experience in Japan as a means of narrowing my area of research. I believe that spending more time in Japan will help me get a better idea of what specific community will be the most promising for ethnographic work.
I also LOVE food and am so excited go back and eat some of the many Japanese dishes I fell in love with while I was there over the summer (for example, this Tonkotsu ramen I walked through a typhoon to eat).
I will be grateful for any amount you donate to my cause, big or small. Whether or not you give any financial support, I will be just as happy to receive your good wishes! I also hope that you will all follow my adventure on facebook.
