CircusAid

"CircusAid is an all-inclusive refugee support service that provides relief from mental anguish while helping build resilience and community connection through engagement in circus arts"

Hi friends and family:) My name is Bianca Calagiu, and I am about to graduate from Western Washington University with a degree in Yoga and Holistic Healing. I’m really passionate about helping people heal through movement of the body. I feel that bringing Circus Aid to a refugee camp can bring back the connection to the body and the sense of humanness.

This summer I will be traveling to Athens, Greece to assist in providing CircusAid workshops to refugees. These workshops are providing a creative outlet in hopes of preventing occupational deprivation.  Thousands of people are temporarily residing in Greece, displaced from their homes, and often left with no personal belongings. The people residing in these refugee camps have overcome enormous feats and have experienced unthinkable trauma. As they begin to piece together their fragmented lives CircusAid is hoping to provide a slight reprieve from mental anguish.

It's common knowledge that children need to play and engage in joyful and recreational activity, it is important to remember adults can benefit from this too. The act of play has been shown to be very beneficial to reducing stress in the mind and body.
CircusAid provides a platform for this type of activity.

I will be of service from July 1st- July 27th and while I am there CircusAid aims to do the following:

* Work in collaboration with 3-4 different already established refugee support organizations.
* Provide 60+ days of joy and laughter through social circus workshops (3-6 hours/day)
* Serve approximately 40 people per day.
* Serve 3 different age populations (children, teenage male/teenage female, adult male/adult female groups)
* Serve mixed ethnic groups (Afghani, Syrian, Iraqi, Sudanese, Eritrean, Ethiopian)
* Facilitate experiences in: Juggling, clowning, acro-balance, hula hooping and performance building.

Any donations made to this GoFundMe will go directly to CircusAid on my behalf.
Funds go towards:
*Circus equipment and transportation costs including building of a mobile circus tent.
It is very difficult to construct a permanent structure in a refugee camp. The mobile tent will enable continuity of our services to more people within camps throughout Europe.
*Additional funds would allow us to make our project more long term and serve more refugees throughout Europe.
*Funding service provisions (car rental, accommodation for facilitators and volunteers)

100% of proceeds go towards assisting refugees and enabling our project to take place.
People like you are making this project a reality.
Thank you endlessly for your support.
