Cindy Needs A Third Cancer Surgery

Donation protected
To all those who have contributed thus far and were a part of meeting the original $5,000 goal, I can't thank you enough for covering the expenses of moving to a more accessible apartment, helping to pay $2K in medical bills and cover time lost from work while undergoing cancer treatment surgeries.   I didn't know where else to turn and, truly, there just aren't words to express my appreciation.

Now, after two surgeries, one in July confirming non-small cell lung cancer and the second surgery  in September to partially remove a  rare cancer called atypical thymic carcinoid, bills will continue to mount as I'm now facing a third surgery very soon to remove the thymus gland as well as cancer not able to be reached during the last surgery.

I am fortunate enough to have medical insurance but am forced to go out of network and will incur a 40% co-pay for this third surgery because the hospital covered by my insurance doesn't have a cardiothoracic surgeon on staff, which is necessary for the open-chest procedure.

Again, I'm turning to my friends, family and community for help.   If you've already contributed, a heartfelt thank you and please do not feel compelled to donate more, but what I'm asking with hand over heart is everyone spread the word to others who may be able to contribute.  Every little bit helps.  If you've already shared on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, please, please share again with this updated information.

Three weeks out from the last surgery, I've begun packing up my home.  I'm waiting on a confirmed date for the next surgery and hoping to have the movers in here before surgery so I can get somewhat settled in the new handicap-accessible apartment.  I will continue to post updates as the move progresses!

With love and gratitude,
Cindy

History behind original campaign goal of $5K:  For those of you who know me, you know how hard it was for me to press the "Create Campaign" button on this GoFundMe page to help pay for increasing medical expenses and a medically-necessary move.

Life threw a huge curve ball recently with a diagnosis of two completely different cancers two months apart--non-small cell lung cancer and atypical thymic carcinoid, which is a rare cancer I've learned. I'm still undergoing some additional testing before therapy starts.

With all this, I knew things were going to get tough fast. Time off work, my crazy sense of humor and positive outlook on life won't pay the bills.

The decision to move to a more accessible apartment has been a tough one.  Who wants to leave a home they love?  Living above a vibrant and bustling Main Street in a small-ish New England city--it became my dream come true.  But as they say, all good things must end, right?  Right.

So after two major surgeries in as many months, facing possibly a third surgery to remove more cancer in the near future, plus chemo and/or radiation very soon, as well as problems with a prosthetic knee, I have come to the painful realization (literally painful) that living in a third-floor walk-up apartment 20 miles from my doctors and my job is not going to fly.

With reduced income and expenses mounting, there isn't anything left for deposits and moving costs to get into a first-floor handicap-accessible apartment as soon as possible before treatment for the thymic carcinoid starts and/or another surgery, so I'm humbly asking for your help.

My goal is to raise $5000, enough to cover recent loss of income, $2K in medical expenses still owing, as well as moving costs to include moving truck, security deposit and first month's rent for a modest handicap-accessible apartment.

Any amount donated would be appreciated more than you know and would go toward the amount needed for the move first, medical expenses after that.

I don't know what my future holds, but your help will mean I can live that future in an apartment more suited to my needs while kicking cancer's butt!

Blessings abound.  Today I found a cute and affordable first-floor apartment with an open floor plan, a walk-in shower and hardwood floors in a quiet neighborhood just blocks from my doctors and my job...and best of all? No stairs. Won't you please help me make this move happen ?

With love and gratitude,
Cindy
