Cindi has been courageously battling pulmonary fibrosis due to having rheumatoid arthritis. Cindi and Mike decided to go to Isla Mujeres before Cindi would undergo extensive testing to find out if she is a candidate to receive a lung transplant, which was scheduled to begin in January. While in Mexico, Cindi became ill and was taken to AmeriMed Hospital in Cancún and was in ICU there for five days before being flown home via medical jet and taken directly to U of M hospital, where she is today.
Those were the longest five days ... Cindi was struggling and just wanted to come home. Mike had limited time to visit with Cindi and was trying to have the doctors in the hospital communicate with Cindi’s doctors at the U of M. Mike relentlessly was Cindi’s healthcare advocate to arrange for her to get home to Minnesota.
As as you can imagine, being in another country, they do not accept your insurance card for means of guaranteed payment, but they were willing to take credit cards or wire transfers. So not only was Mike worrying about Cindi, he had the added burden of medical costs that were mounting as the days went on...yet Cindi was not showing signs of improvement. Mike’s goal was to get Cindi home to get proper medical treatment and be surrounded by their children, grandchildren and family - No matter what the cost!
As word spread of the news of what was happening with Cindi and Mike, the prayers began to be said for their return to Minnesota where she can get the medical treatment she needs. Our family thanks you for your prayers and ask you to continue keeping Cindi in your prayers as she has a long road ahead of her.

The majority of the medical costs during Cindi’s hospital stay will be reimbursed by the insurance company, however the medical jet that was necessary to transport her home to Minnesota will not be covered. It is for this reason, this GoFundMe account was created. If there is any way you are able to help ease this financial burden, your donation will be gratefully appreciated.
