Cruise 4 Ciaran

Donation protected
Our beautiful, gentle and kind 16 year old boy Ciaran was tragically taken away from us on the 5th of January. He was long boarding home with a friend on January 2nd and was airlifted to Victoria General. Even though Ciaran was struck by the vehicle on January 2nd he wasn't pronounced brain dead until the 5th at 11:20am. He was sent down to the operating room with the BC Transplant Team to donate his organs at 8:00pm that same day. Ciaran is our hero! He donated his heart, one kidney, both of his lungs, his liver and both of his eyes. Donating his organs was Ciaran's own wish that we had coincidently discussed again, just weeks previous to this horrible incident.

We are raising funds for a not for profit organization that we have started in Ciarans honour. It is called The Cruise 4 Ciaran. Our mandate is to raise awareness for rider safety (wearing helmets and reflective gear), Driver knowledge regarding road sharing and organ donation education for youth. We have currently held two successful  (Cruise 4 Ciaran) events, the first was in April 2014 and the second was in May of 2015. We have provided reflective "Cruise for Ciaran" decals for the back of everyones helmets and have also been providing a number of helmets to those in need. (depending on donations and sponsorships, of course) NO HELMET=NO PARTICIPATION in the ride/event people are though, welcome to use their feet and be walkers, there are many of those as well.  The Cruise 4 Ciaran event encompasses a 5km route beginning and ending at the Lewis Center in Courtenay B.C. At this time, we gather together to remember our son, brother, uncle and friend, Ciaran... and to reflect on who he was, what his dreams were and how much he loved life, loved the world and everything in it, and that he has gone too soon... Not only will we have speakers bringing awareness to all of the above issues, but we share in some of Ciarans favorite foods...cheese and buns and peppermint tea. We have media coverage, as well as RCMP and St. Johns Ambulance involvement on this day.  There are pledge sheets for participants available at cruise4ciaran.org that you can print. We are also building a two benches (Thanks to Darleen and Jonathon) and hoping to plant a tree at the Lewis Center and also at GP Vanier Secondary School, in memory of Ciaran so that his friends and family can spend time in these places in remembrance of him. There was a $600 annual bursary awarded in Ciaran's name in 2014 (there were not enough funds raised to award a bursary in 2015) to a grade 12 student who is involved in outdoor education, wilderness guiding or search and rescue. We were hoping to be awarding this bursary (Ciarans Dream) for 16yrs, the same amount of years that we were blessed to have our precious boy. Unfortunately our little grass roots organization has exausted all efforts to fundraise in our town for all of theneeds of the cruise and the bursary. As,we purchase many reflective and safety items to give away year round and host this awarness event for free, our costs are significantly more than we have been able to raise.

It takes a community to raise a child, it also takes a community to help keep our children safe. This is why we are going to social media fundraising, in hopes of continuing our efforts regarding keeping our youth safe and seen, our drivers aware and our young people sharing the news about organ donaton.

Please donate anything you can to support our Cruise 4 Ciaran committee to support our community.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and hopefully to share and donate.
Love, Ciarans family, the Cruise 4 Ciaran committee, the jr. committee and the entire community that is embracing us xo
