I also am experiencing major brain fog and what we believe to be early stages of Dementia or CTE.
Hello my name is Chuck Thomas, born and raised in Houston, TX, where I played football as a youngster and at Stratford High School where our team won the Texas State Championship.
I graduated from the University of Oklahoma where I played football as a Sooner in Norman, Oklahoma and we won multiple BIG 8 College Championships.
I then went on to play football in the NFL as a FREE AGENT for the San Francisco Forty Niners and have 2 Superbowl Championships in 1988 and 1989.
However, after a championship career in the NFL, my dreams of having a healthy football afterlife have been totally shattered. For the past 5 years, I have suffered daily from debilitating Osteoarthritis in my lower back, both hips and have major PAIN from inflamation through out my entire body.
Exibit A) -- Osteoarthritis (OA) is a type of joint disease that results from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone.
Additionally, I experience DAILY .. major BRAIN FOG and Ringing In My Ears. I believe that I am suffering from the beginning stages of Dementia or CTE ( Chronic Traumatic Enchaplopathy ).
Exibit B ) Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in athletes (and others) with a history of repetitive brain trauma, including symptomatic concussions as well as asymptomatic subconcussive hits to the head.
My mobility is worsening every month. I experience severe pain when getting up out of a chair, walking, sitting too long and have arthritic flairs ups much too frequently. My devoted partner, SUZI, helps me put my socks on every morning. I cannot even bend down to pick up a quarter on the floor. I have constant periods of mental fatigue and now major memory challenges. The SAD reality for me is I am only 55 years old.
My physician has recommended a 12 - 16 week nutritional intravenous treatment program but the cost is well over $3500.00. Presently, I DO NOT have any type of medical insurance.
If the treatment is effective and lessens the pain, I will be able to return back to work with a full time schedule that include starting the business of helping former ( Pre 93 ) players in a big way.
I am now pursuing another kind of championship – a medical success story of becoming pain free in my joints and possibly even get my mental concentration back. My GOAL is to get a little closer to moving more like the athlete I used to be.
