Today is a new year and as many of us look forward to what the year will bring us the Amundson family is looking at a set of challenges they couldn't have even imagined a week ago. Below is the time line of events that have unfolded so rapidly and changed their lives in countless ways. They are an amazing, strong and fighting family but they need some help.
Each day since the 27th has brought news, challenges and facing a way of life that is drastically different from the one they had. The way things stand today on the first day of 2014, the challenges they are facing are numerous but we can help. This page is set up to help ease some of the financial worries they will be facing in this new year, allowing Alisha to take care of bills while Val focuses on Chuck. From months of therapy, prosthetic legs and fittings to renovating their home so Chuck will be able to get in, access his bedroom and bathroom and recover, little of which is covered by insurance, the costs are rising fast.
We have all been praying hard for this family and have asked God to do what he does best and keep them in his arms, give them strength and spiritually support them, which he has done in leaps and bounds if you've been able to see them. Now it's our turn to do what we can to ease some of their other burdens. I've set a lofty goal for donations, but it's only a small dent to what they face financially. I'm hoping we can meet and exceed this goal. Please donate and help this family focus on healing and not let the burden the costs try to steal that focus.
Again this is an amazing family. Alisha is my best friend and may be marrying into my family but they have accepted me not just as her fiancées sister but as a member of their family. Their "other daughter". I want to see us all come together and help this family in every way possible. Val told me she felt as though she was on a cloud of prayers, lets cushion that cloud with a little financial cushioning.
On 12/27 at 4 am, Chuck woke up in an extreme amount of pain in his left leg. His leg was cold, blue, and the edema which he normally had was no longer there. He went into Fairview Ridges ER at 8 am. He under went several tests for his pain and was diagnosed with a pinched nerve. He insisted that he be admitted into the hospital because he knew something was wrong and the pain wasn't under control. He knew he couldn't stand on his foot as he couldn't move it. Once admitted into the hospital, the neurologist informed him they would be doing an L5 injection to reduce the inflamation.
On 12/28, the doctor finally checked his foot with the dopler and found no pulse. He immediately informed Chuck they would transport by ambulance to Abbott Northwestern. He was seen immediately by a vascular specialist and went for an ultrasound and was immediately taken into surgery to remove the blood clot they found. The doctor was able to get the blood circulation back into his leg as far down as his knee.
On 12/29, his body was reacting to the dead tissue in his leg and the toxins started to build up in his kidneys. He had a PIC line installed in case he needs dialysis. He was also taken to surgery right away to have his leg amputated. The amputation took his leg to the knee.
On 12/30 Chuck woke up and started being his usual funny, caring self. Making jokes and laughing. That night he began to run a fever and has developed pneumonia. His kidney levels continued to rise.
On 12/31 His fever began to go down. His leg is healing well but his kidney levels continued to rise.
