On February 20th I got that call that everyone hopes they never receive about a loved one.  My sister Chris fell down some basement stairs in the middle of the night and hurt her head.  Her brain was injured and swelling so much they had to do emergency brain surgery.  We didn't know if she was going to make it.   I don't remember driving to the hospital, I was terrified of loosing my sister and my best friend!
Chris is a fighter and she made it through the surgery.  I remember asking the surgeon if she was ok and she replied, "No, your sister is a very sick lady, she is going to have a hard road ahead of her to recover from this traumatic injury".  But she made it through and was still with us!!!! The 2nd cat scan showed more blood on her brain in a different area and she had to go in for a second brain surgery.    After a long hard day, Chris made it through and was in the Critical Care unit.  The first week was very hard to see her go through.   The thoughts you have about your loved one as you watch for her chest to rise with each breath are heart breaking.   During that time there was little response from her, but as the days went by Chris got off her ventilator and was opening her eyes.  After a week, she started talking and asking questions about how she got there.   It took one more week in the ICU and two more weeks in inpatient therapy before Chris would be able to come home.  One month in the hospital--Chris was making leaps and bounds with her recovery.

Chris has been home now for a little over a month.  She's doing physical therapy and occupational therapy each week along with vision and mind exercises and she continues to progress!  With a brain injury this severe, it will take a year for her to fully recover.

Chris has been so much more than a sister to me.  I don't know what I would do without her!   She's really not the type of person to ask for help but I wanted to create this campaign for her to help with medical and other expenses while she is off work.  She's gone through so much and still has a long road ahead of her in her recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page and for helping my sister Chris!
