It is time to spread Christmas Joy!
Last year with your financial gifts, good wishes, and prayers we successfully launched the Christmas Joy Project in Zimbabwe.
2016 Funds
In 2016, we directly shared a Christmas meal and gave Christmas gifts to about 250 people and we contributed to the monthly meals of about 267 people in Zimbabwe. We spent $2190.22 of the $3720 we had when I left in December 2016. We raised $426 from friends and family in Zimbabwe and received another $45 from an online donor in the United States. Recipients were: Hupenyu Hutsva Children’s Home, Masimba Group of Homes for Children with Disabilities, Bako Redonhodzo (Old Aged Home), Chinyaradzo Children’s Home, Mushawevana (a children’s home), Ida Wekwakwo Old Aged Home and Keepers Alert (for children living on the streets). All money left over will go to this year's fund.
Our Mission
Our mission remains the same, to celebrate Christmas with those materially less fortunate that us. I qualify the word fortunate, because the joy that everyone I met exhibited was truly inspirational. No-one felt sorry for themselves, entitled to anything or blamed anyone. Instead, everyone was thankful and happy for what we shared. Joy abounded.
How We Work
We will partner with the same organizations as last year for the Christmas parties: Mushawevana (a children’s home), Ida Wekwakwo Old Aged Home and Keepers Alert (for children living on the streets).
I will be in Zimbabwe from December 10 to December 30, 2017.
- The first party is December 15 with 100+ children and teenagers living on the streets.
- The second is December 20 with the elderly folks.
- The last party is December 21 with 53+ boys and girls at the orphanage. For this party, I am planning for about 100 kids, as last year’s party ended up as a neighborhood children’s party. For each party, we will have food, music and gifts. (Note: The thank you video for this fundraiser was filmed last year, we were leaving and this was the children's goodbye)

Whenever I ask our partner organization staff what gifts to bring, the answer is always the same – whatever you are able and whatever you heart desires.
It is in this same spirit of giving whatever you are able and what your heart desires that I invite you to help spread the joy of Christmas in whatever way you can.
As we did last year, the charitable organizations in Zimbabwe are helping with logistics, but funding will come from the Christmas Joy project. I have $2,000 of my personal funds set aside and a friend pledged $500 in matching funds.
(If you would like to join me in Zimbabwe, you are more than welcome! I have housing available.)
All money raised will go towards the celebrations and food provision as well as the school. If money is left over, it will be used next Christmas.
