Christian Lerma's Recovery

Donation protected
My son, Christian Lerma is a senior at Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas, TX. He is a smart and talented young man, looking towards college and on the verge of becoming a man.

Last year, his soccer team took home a class 6A State Championship. Soccer has been such a driving force in his life. I have never known anyone to be so in love with a sport.

On Friday, February 9, 2018 his soccer team played against J.J. Pierce High School. Christian collapsed mid-game due to a cardiac arrest. He was saved by the quick attention of trainer Tara Grubbs, who by the grace of God, was able to give him both CPR and use a defibrillator to bring him back to life.

We are eternally grateful, from our family to hers.

He is being treated at Medical City.  Today, February 13, 2018 he had surgery for a permanent defibrillator to be put in place. He will no longer be able to participate in competitive sports, but he has a bright future before him, and it has made us all take a moment and be grateful for what we have before us.

This new journey will include a permanet lifestyle change for Christian, as he will need treatment for his heart condition for the rest of his life.

My family and I are thankful for the medical attention, prayers, love and support he has received from everyone in the community. The faculty and students at Jesuit have been incredible and have gone above and beyond, as well has his cardiologist, Dr. Yoo and the team of providers here at Medical City. They will always be in our hearts.

Christian and our family are blessed to have this second chance before us. God has given him an opportunity and a new purpose.

Unfortunately Christian will no longer be able to play collegiate soccer, and will have to adjust to a new life. Today we are looking forward to what the future holds, but financially we are not prepared to finance his long-term medical needs and future college expenses without his athletic scholarships. This was set up for Christian's future medical needs, and of course he is still very hopeful about attending college to further his academic career. We are eternally grateful for the tremendous support and love he has received from friends, family, his Jesuit community, and even strangers. Christian is truly blessed.

Thank you all,
The Lerma Family
