On the morning of January 23, 2018 the unimaginable happened. While our friend Chris Hunt was alone at home preparing for a work day she suffered a massive ischemic stroke. In an instant, the life of our beautiful, vivacious, healthy friend changed forever. She was found laying on the floor, unresponsive after 9 hours. The Doctors painted a grim picture when she arrived at the ER. Her family & friends gathered close in support and prayer that first 10 days. Not knowing what was around the next corner, we remained hopeful that the Doctors were wrong and we are very thankful that she survived that life-altering stroke.
Chris is paralyzed on the right side of her body and requires 24x7 care to help with routine daily tasks. She also has been diagnosed with aphasia/apraxia which has left her unable to communicate or read. Needless to say, she cannot go to work and earn a living.
She has an amazing attitude and works hard every day with her physical and speech therapists but we can still see the sadness in her eyes, in her soul. Sad for the losses; loss of her independence and the ability to communicate how she feels or what she needs are only a few of her losses. She hides her frustration behind a laugh or smile when people are around. It is heartbreaking to not be able to help her which is one of the reasons why we started this page.
Chris has made some progress but her journey towards her "New-Normal", will be long, grueling and costly. While she is happy to finally be back home, she is worried about a million things, included finances. The Alliance for Aging Research reported in 2015 that the mean lifetime individual cost of an ischemic stroke is $199,904 and we are hoping with your help we can cover some of these costs.
