Chrissie was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease when she was 20 years old. She has lived with ulcerative colitis and its cycles of flare-ups and remissions for 17 years. This summer, after losing 40 pounds in 4 weeks, she had to be hospitalized as her body was not responding to the standard steroid treatments . Eventually, emergency surgery was required to remove her colon, which had become perforated and necrotic. Chrissie continues to experience very serious complications resulting from infection after the total colectomy.
Due to the extensive medical procedures, she has been unable to work for several months and has lost significant income. Chrissie's lengthy healing process will require additional surgeries, occupational therapy and physical therapy. She needs to learn to walk on her own again and rebuild muscle and body mass over the next several months.
Our goals for this fund-raising campaign are to: 1 - Raise enough money to cover Chrissie's basic living expenses for a year so she can focus her energies on recovery 2 - Raise money to contribute to the substantial medical bills which she will be receiving
We would be deeply grateful for any support you could provide. Thank you for helping and encouraging Chrissie on her road to recovery.
