Harvey Flood Recovery For My Family

Donation protected
As many of you know, my parents and one of my brothers and his family were some of the many people devastated by the catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.

My mom and dad and brother live in Wexford Park in Vidor, Texas, and both of their homes have suffered tremendous damage from the flood water which reached up to 7 feet.

The cost to remove, repair and replace everything in their homes which has been damaged by the flood water during the many days the water remained is vast and will exceed the amount of compensation they will receive from insurance companies and FEMA by far.

Virtually everything in and out of their homes is a total loss, including their cars, all flooring/walls, every item of furniture, all white goods and even smaller items as they were evacuated by the National Guard under emergency conditions with water rising at the rate of 1 foot every 30 minutes. They literally left their homes with the clothes on their back and their dog.

Any help you provide is greatly appreciated, by my family and myself.

All proceeds from this page will be used during the recovery process and will be passed directly to them from my UK bank account to my brother's account.

If you donate and would like updates of the long road to recovery in the form of photographs I am happy to be contacted via this page and to provide this.

Current Stage, 7 Sep 2017:

They have visited their home for the first time since being rescued by the National Guard on Thursday, 31st August today but they are currently sharing a home with another family in a different city until their homes can be made safe and habitable again. The next step is ripping out all flooring and walls to allow a long period of drying. They also have to separate all of their belongings from their homes to allow FEMA to collect them from the road side.

Update, 13 Sep 2017:

The clean-up is slowly beginning. The initial stages require everyone to tear out all flooding, sheetrock (plasterboard) and insulation, as well as removing all goods that were in the floodwaters including; kitchen and utility room appliances, furniture, decorations, etc. FEMA require these to be lined near the street separated into piles depending on what it is. Finally, once the house is generally gutted, it must be left to dry out for a period, generally 2-3 weeks before the rebuilding process can begin.

Update, 26 Sep 2017:

The dry out is ongoing, but it will still be months before they are able to live in their homes again. My brother has purchased a camper to sleep on his driveway whilst rebuilding is ongoing.

We have been amazed at the amount of money which has been donated by our friends and family.

This money will be used to cover the purchase of white goods (washing machine, drier, fridge/freezer) and any leftover money will be used to buy replacement bedroom furniture for my neice and nephew.
