Christopher was born on December 16, 1986 in Cleveland, OH. He graduated from Cuba City High School (WI) in 2005 and joined the Army National Guard in 2006, where he also served a tour in Iraq from January until August of 2008. Chris was pursuing a career as a Registered Nurse, and was already working as a CNA.
Unfortunately, on April 3, 2010, Christopher passed away from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident, at the age of 23. In memory of Christopher, we have created a non-profit memorial fund. The Christopher Becker Memorial Scholarship Fund exemplifies who Chris was as a person - someone that loved volunteering and serving other people, above all else.
We've been offering local scholarships since 2010, to graduating seniors at Cuba City High School, in Wisconsin. The criteria for these scholarships include:
1) Students with a strong passion for helping other people.
2) Filling out an essay entitled, "What Does Volunteerism Mean To Me?"
3) It does NOT factor GPA.
The ultimate goal is to raise enough funds so that it grows into a National Scholarship (it's currently a local one). Anyone who has a passion for helping others, and wants to pursue a career at a 4-year institution, community college, apprenticeship, etc., will be able to apply (even adults returning to school).
Our initial goal is to raise $25,000, so we can begin giving away national scholarships from the interest accrued each year. This amount will make that possible.
