Chris Stuart's Girls Fund

Update 12/9/17:

Late Tuesday night, my baby brother lost his battle against amyloidosis.  It unfortunately was too advanced once it was diagnosed the doctor team told us.  Chris stayed strong and fought hard - he never lost his charm, manners, and wit to the end.  I’m so proud of him and I will miss him so much. Chris was my best friend.

Chris was a wonderful man who dearly loved his family and friends.  He had a big heart, lived in the moment, and brought so much laughter to everyone. Chris always prioritized his life first as a dedicated husband and father. He also had an amazing work ethic and loved his career. He was always planning his time outside of work doing things with his girls and their many sports and activities.  Chris loved his wife Stephanie unconditionally and with all his heart.

We started this fund to help with the high cost of medical care, travel, and unexpected costs associated with getting Chris well.  Chris is survived by his wife and their three girls, Sydney, Sawyer, and Sayge.  We will be using this campaign to set up funds for each of their girls.

I am grateful as is my entire family for everyone showing up in our lives at this difficult time.  We hope you have a blessed holiday with your loved ones.

***********************************************************

As many of you know, my brother Chris has been fighting a major illness since May of this year. It’s been the toughest struggle of his life at 44 years old. Chris made his first visit to the hospital in July when he, Stephanie and their girls were in Orlando to watch his daughter Sawyer’s softball tournament. He has been in and out of the hospital ever since. In early August, Chris went in for a gall bladder removal surgery, which was supposed to be a routine procedure. Unfortunately there were complications from the surgery resulting in him becoming septic and suffering from internal bleeding for six days. He underwent multiple surgeries to control the infection. During this time, Chris continued to lose weight and was not recovering as expected. He had many doctors trying to diagnose his illness without success. So in late October, Chris decided to come to Emory in Atlanta and after a few days and several tests later, he was diagnosed with Amyloidosis.

Amyloidosis is rare blood disease in which abnormal proteins accumulate in organs such as the heart, kidney, liver, and nervous system and can be life threatening. The disease has greatly affected his liver function and has also shown up in his heart. It is treated in the same fashion as cancer – chemotherapy and potentially stem cell transplants and organ transplants if organ function is too compromised from the amyloid proteins.

This will be a journey for him and the family to get Chris back to a place of wellness. He loves his work, he loves to spend time with his family and friends, and talks frequently about his life back home (he’s been at Emory Hospital since October 31st). He has not been able to work since May although his company is continuing to take care of him which is wonderful. Stephanie has been spending much of her time with Chris and away from work, which has resulted in her company’s health insurance benefits to no longer be available. They are now on Cobra insurance but the premiums are steep on a single income.

Chris is well underway with his chemotherapy and doing great with it. Chris is determined, and has lots of souls behind him as one of my best friends says. Together we will get him there and we are incredibly grateful for the cards, calls, visits, and love being sent to Chris and our family! It means more than you know.

We would be grateful if you are in a place to donate and help with all the high costs of health care, travel, and other unexpected expenses that need to be met. All donations will be designated for these expenses and if you have any questions about the process, feel free to email me using the link on the campaign page.

Many thanks to all the special people in our lives who know Chris, love him, and want to see him back to his normal fun and crazy-acting self!
