Cheryl's Summer Study Abroad!

Hello Everyone! I am currently a junior, biology major at Spelman College. It has always been my goal to take advantage of all amazing opportunities within the Atlanta University Center.  Within today's society it is not often that young black Americans get the opportunity to not only attend a 4 year institution but to also study abroad within that 4- year period.  I believe it is imperative to have the opportunity to study abroad as it will build global conciousness and exposure. This past Spring Semester I was graciously accepted into a 4-week study abroad program to go to Heilongjiang province in northeast China, from May 10-June 6, 2015.   While in China I will be taking two 4- credit courses as well as living on a college's campus. There are not many Study Abroad opportunities within my area of study, and I was surprised to be accepted into this program. Although short notice, I believe when it is  time to expand my horizons and build cultural conciousness, my community will stand behind me and aid in allowing me to be a part of this outstanding experience. This year has been an amazing transitional period within my life, and as wonderful as it has been it has put an extreme strain on my family's financial stability and mine. I have been desperately searching for a part time job, but I have not had much success due to my rigorous class schedule. THE ENTIRE PROGRAM COSTS $5000, AND IT IS IMPERITIVE THAT I REACH THAT GOAL BY APRIL 16, 2015!  I know that this experience will change my life and inspire me to expand my education and disregard boundaries. I will be challenged to think on a broader scale and enhance my abilities and leadership skills. This experience will challenge my character in a state of adversity.  I can assure you that this will change my entire outlook. To help defray the cost for airfare, tuition, local transportation and living arrangements I have made a go fund me account to receive help. This opportunity is extremely important to me and I would be honored if you can assist me, to aid in achieving my goal. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I hope I can count on your help.  Any little thing helps!
