CHASE THE WARRIOR

The lives of the Reger family have been changed forever.  The newest member of the family, four month old, Baby Chase suffered a non-accidental trauma that occurred mid-February.   Dave and Bobbie have been enduring every parent’s worst nightmare with the discovery that Baby Chase suffered a significant brain injury that was done on purpose with the intent to injure.

Please consider helping the Reger Family as they face a lifetime of medical bills, doctor visits and continued care for Baby Chase.  In the past couple of weeks Chase has endured four brain surgeries.  Throughout this journey Chase has remained a true WARRIOR and fighter.  He continues to amaze the doctors, nurses and family with his resilience through so much adversity.

Baby Chase began his hospital stay on February 22nd.    After a week in the hospital and two surgeries, Chase was able to return home to be reunited with his big brother, Carter, and sister, Kaycee.

Unfortunately his stay at home was cut short as he was rushed back the hospital within 48hours of his return. He immediately went into surgery for the third time. After another week stay and a fourth surgery he was once again able to return to the comfort of his own home.

Although Baby Chase continues to beat the odds and remain strong, he will forever be impacted by this awful event. As a result of the injuries Chase has a shunt in his brain to filter out the fluids and relieve pressure.  His shunt will remain with him and require a lifetime of care and maintenance, which will likely lead to additional surgeries as he grows. Bobbie's career is on hold as she faces the possibility of providing around the clock care for Baby Chase. The extent of his injuries and long term damage are yet to be determined, and we will not know the lasting effects of this horrific act for at least a year.

Let me step back and take moment to introduce my friends, my family and Chase's parents, Dave and Bobbie.
They have three beautiful children Carter (5yrs), Kaycee (3yrs) and Chase (4mons). Dave and Bobbie are two of the most caring and involved parents I have ever met.  Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting them knows that they would do anything for anyone without hesitation.  I would like to take a moment to applaud Dave and Bobbie for there tireless care for Baby Chase, while remaining great parents for Carter and Kaycee.  Their ability to balance a 24/7 presence at the hospital with raising two very happy and active children is truly inspiring. This required them to split time between the hospital and home as they took turns ensuring Carter and Kaycee were able maintain their lifestyle and busy schedule. Throughout this journey these kids did not miss a single event or activity. They remain happy healthy children who know only that their baby brother hurt his head and had to stay in the hospital to get better, and that mom and dad love them very much.  Their ability to shield Carter and Kaycee from this horrific injury of their beloved baby brother is a true testament to the amazing parents they are.

As this journey progressed Dave and Bobbie continued to ask the hospital staff, “what can we do to give back?"  Their appreciation for the caring and extraordinary staff will lead them to a future of volunteering at the hospital that will begin as soon as Chase is healthy enough to allow.   For parents to be this giving in the face of a tragic event is further proof of their ability to care for everyone they encounter.  I consider Dave and Bobbie my personal role models who in the darkest of times continue to look to help others.

Now is our chance to help them as they face a future of uncertainty, a lifetime of care and expense for Baby Chase.  At this time we do not know the total cost of the hospital stays and four surgeries, let alone the lifetime of medical expenses Baby Chase faces.  Dave and Bobbie are the last people who would ask for help, and to date are hesitant to precede with this site. With each visit and conversation Dave and Bobbie have expressed how humbling it is to have so many people step up to help with meals, prayers and offers to run errands.    Let's show them there is an entire village of caring people who are here for them!

We are all hopeful our thoughts and prayers will be answered and Baby Chase will be in the small minority of infants who make it through without neurological and physical effects of this intentional and hateful incident.  As you can see by his amazing smile and spirit throughout the surgeries, this young man is a WARRIOR and destined to spread his cheer with the world.  As Dave and Bobbie continue to care for their little warrior, let's make sure they can focus their attention on their children and not the mounting medical bills or financial burden. We pray that Baby Chase will make a full recovery, minus the lifetime shunt; however praying is not all we can do for the Reger family.

We reach out to anyone who is a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, neighbor or friend of a child as you can make a difference in this amazing family’s life.
Any donation big or small will help significantly, and allow Dave and Bobbie to focus on all three of their children.
