Charlotte's Stand Healthy Campaign
Most infants develop the ability to stand between 8 and 12 months old. With your help, 68-year-old Charlotte Schneider will stand again . . . and display amazing smiles of “Look, I did it!” once more.
Charlotte served the public as a forester in Missouri, which included risking her life to fight forest fires in several western states when needed. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis that now has her seated every day in a motorized scooter.
However, recent medical developments have created a promising device that uses hydraulics to easily bring Charlotte to the standing position. Such treatment includes these benefits of standing:
* Improves blood circulation
* Improves breathing functions
* Decreases muscle spasms
* Improves range of motion
* Helps maintain bone integrity
* Improves bowel & regularity functions
* Improves kidney & bladder functions
* Lessens or prevents progressive scoliosis
In essence, the human body works at its best in the standing position. Charlotte discovered the benefits of stand therapy while visiting a local hospital for physical rehab, but her allotted visits ended last year after four months. A mirror allowed Charlotte to see herself stand, which she says was a great visual motivator.
“My legs still look pretty nice!” she says and smiles. “Standing up feels great.”
Charlotte's insurance company rejected the request to supply the equipment. Today, Charlotte hopes to purchase the medical device with your help, and experience the medical benefits of standing in her own home. Funds will be used to purchase the equipment and pay for a medical student to assist Charlotte in exercising with this device at least twice weekly.
Charlotte promises a unique thank you to donors when the medical device is purchased, a gift she could not have given before: a standing ovation for you.
