Dear Friends and Family,
Some of you may know that I have always had a love for building and designing. It started with Legos and cardboard boxes way back when I was little and now I am taking this passion of mine to the Dominican Republic this February with the Builders Beyond Borders program. Every year B3 members travel to foreign countries to help others in need. This year B3 will work with a local organization known as MUDHA (Movimiento de Mujeres Domica Haitiana) to build three classrooms at the Anaisa School. There are currently about 165 students at the school from kindergarten to fourth grade. The school was originally started by MUDHA because the children had no access to the national education system in the Dominican Republic either because their parents are Haitian immigrants without proper documentation or because of the poor economic situation of their families. The school also acts as a community center for their village bringing people together to teach them about health, nutrition, about the environment and many other important programs. The 200 families that live in this local village called Batey Palmarejo are very excited to work with Builders Beyond Borders to construct these much-needed classrooms for their community. In return for our hard work they will teach us about their culture, music, traditions and the women in the village will cook meals for us that represent their Dominican/Haitian heritage.
I have joined the Mejuntos team and I am very excited to travel to the Dominican Republic with them to make a difference in the lives of the people living in this remote village. I will be traveling with B3 in February during my school break. In order to go on this trip we are required to do community service projects locally within our own community. We must also raise all of the money ourselves for the travel expenses as well as funding for the materials and supplies needed for our project. Builders Beyond Borders is a non-profit program solely made up of volunteers and we completely fund everything that is needed for these projects such as cement mix, wood, water, tools and much more. I am hoping to raise $3,200 by November 15th so I can travel with my team and help build these much-needed classrooms for other children who are not as fortunate as I have been in my life. I would be so appreciative if you would consider supporting me by making a donation. Please remember that all contributions big or small will make a huge difference and help to transform lives. I promise to send you pictures of our progress so you can see exactly where your money is going and how hard I will be working to accomplish our goals in Batey Palmerejo. All donations are tax deductible and will go directly to benefit the Escuela Anaisa (Anaisa School).
