MC's B-day & Off-Paper Celebration

This month (October 12th) is Monica Cosby's 50th birthday! It's a milestone!
The state took 20 years of Monica's freedom, and then took over 2 more under conditions of parole designed to re-capture so many, but Monica is finally off paper (out of prison AND off parole) for the first time in over 22 years! Let's celebrate all this, and show our appreciation to a fantastic organizer, activist, and comrade with a donation of any amount you can toward some things that have been on Monica's wishlist for awhile now:
1. A laptop that works all the time, so she can work on her book, and continue the work toward creating a prisoner newsletter, collaborating with incarcerated women.
2. A trip to Michigan and Mississippi so she can see grandkids, sisters and other family she's not been able to go visit since she got out. (Monica's dad died right before she got out, and her mom while she was on parole).
3. Getting her hair done.
4. To continue doing all the great work she does!
Monica Cosby is a tremendous gift to our communities. She owes no one any more of her time, and yet is following through on a commitment she made inside to the women she had to leave behind. No one fights more fiercely to ensure the well-being of people who are currently locked up, those returning, and the systems that punish people for survival and trauma. Monica is fighting for a world that is truly livable for all. She's a wonderful person all unto herself, but also an important reminder of what we lose when the state works to disappear people inside cages.
