Carters Medical Expenses.

Donation protected
Carter Michael arrived 5 weeks early on September 8th 2013. The neonatologist informed us that he had a rare genetic disorder of bone growth called achondroplasia. Achondroplasia is the most common cause of short stature with disproportionately short limbs. In other words, carter has dwarfism.
In early December Carter had about a dozen episodes of apnea. Not the apnea that you would think of. Not sleep apnea. Just spells where he would stop breathing. On three different occasions we had to call 911. Twice he was taken to the hospital via ambulance. During those two hospital stays, we spent a total of 12 days in the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit). He was intubated twice, had two EEGs done (totaling around 150 hours), an MRI, three CAT scans, an EKG, a swallow test, and had his foramen magnum (the large opening under the skull) surgically enlarged due to severe narrowing (stenosis) and compression of the spinal cord. We are currently seeing a genetic specialist and an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist at Albany Medical Center.
This fundraiser is to try and cover some of the costs associated with the ambulance transportation, medical bills for the hospital stays, and specialist visits not covered by insurance.
