Toronto Or Bust

TORONTO OR BUST!
It's time to move on!

At the age of 8 Christina entered the world of entertainment as a kid reporter, while Martin didn’t take his creative ventures outside the Star Trek inspired tree house until high school lighting department in grade 9. Once we combined our skills and talents in 1987, the world opened up. For the last 31 years, we have built, created, guested, organized and grown through various projects on many scales.

We are artists in our own right. Being an artist presents many challenges. For us, it’s:

 1. Where’s the work? Do I have to move?
 2. How can I express and create without falling into a deep trap?
 3. Does age really have anything to do with this lifestyle?
 4. Is it really about who, not what you know, anymore?

Answers for us are:
 1. We need to move, as our chances at continuing to work, have. We moved to BC for this same reason and now find our needs are moving back to Toronto.
 2. It’s the entertainment industry. There’s no such thing as avoiding the deep trap, but there is such a thing as learning from the risks you take.
 3. It does not. Take care of yourself and be willing to continue to grow and you’re good for life.
 4. Ummm... Hmmm... Well.... We appear to have a little of both so not sure.

What we are sure of is that we need a little assistance to continue onward and upward. We moved to Vancouver BC in 2001 and shot quickly into projects that satisfied the various levels of our existence. We made great advancements and have had many setbacks. Much has changed and the learning has reached the max as more opportunities and connections are reopening back in Toronto. It's time to return - and we would love to make you part of this adventure.
This Project Will Fund:
What is important to us is that we bring our skills to where they can be used to their fullest so by helping out, you’d be bringing back to Toronto an unstoppable pair of creative geeks and helping prove to the universe that age doesn’t matter, identity and mental health are paramount, no man is an island, and we are all capable of contributing to the arts in all the unique ways.

It seems that a trip back would cost much more then the trip here 17 years ago.  The following is estimated based on online pricing as of 09/06/18:

The amount of this goal is based on the BIG things for a 4 day trip across country.  Truck and gas = $6000. Gas for our car = $800. Campsites or cheap motel for stops = $600.  Flights for ‘pre scout’, signing for place, etc. = $1000.

If we raise over the above amount we will have more to be able to also support: Month overlap on rent (Toronto end) = $2000. Post office box redirect = $250. Cat care while on road/emergency fund = $300. Replacing furniture = $1000. and all the other lovely things we haven't worked into the math yet.

 Where We Are Now:
With some help of dear friends Martin is headed to Toronto October 10 to get a head start (& take a course that guarantees he can maintain his union status) and spend Christmas with his parents.  Their age and move into a senior facility means they may not have another Christmas as their physical state and minds are going.  We are setting the actual drive/move across country when the weather can be better for such an adventure.  We are looking at March/April.

We are presently working through materials from other productions and repurposing them into various Etsy items so that, when we are on the move, we won't have to pack it all and we can start fresh once at the other end.
We have a Photographer back in Toronto to create the next calendar and Martin is already moving his IATSE union status to the Toronto local so that he can work there the moment he gets there.
