My friend, Carolina, lives in Colombia and wishes to marry soon. Her fiancé has graduated college and wishes to pursue a career in psychology. Unfortunately, because of COVID and other circumstances beyond their control, there are no jobs to be had. The fiancé (novio) is working long hours 6 days a week at a “telco” call center, and Carolina has been studying to be an administrative assistant for many months. She will soon start her internship. Together they are unable to earn enough to keep up with the $2.60 daily interest on the student loan. They live in a small studio apartment with their only appliance being a small stovetop, no oven, no washing machine, no refrigerator. Carolina works hard every day to make a nice home. She washes clothes by hand, goes to “mercado” twice monthly for the food that will last to the next payday. She cares for her paraplegic brother and helps her other siblings and mother with their necessities. Carolina has a heart of gold and never thinks of only herself. She works tirelessly to make a better life. And.... she gives of her time to teach Spanish to language partners such as myself. Please help ease the financial strain of their impossible student loan burden.
