Carmen's Travel Study: ATL to Ghana

Donativo protegido

Family and friends!

Thank you for taking the time to come to check out my campaign. I am excited to share with you that during my final year (2019) in my pursuit of my Masters degree in Divinity from Emory University. I was recently accepted into a travel abroad seminar in Ghana, Africa with international scholar and profound professor at Emory University, The Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Y. Lartey and the African Pilgrimages Inc .

I am currently coming halfway through the second year of the three year program and the journey has been a blessed one.

My first year, I finished with a 3.0 GPA, founded the Candler Student Alumni Board with the help of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, developed programming and curriculum for chaplaincy services in youth detention centers and I spent the summer mentoring youth from all over the world with the Youth Theological Initiative.

But, I am ready to do THE NEXT BIG THING.

When I applied to Emory, I set three major goals for my experience here:

(1) Work with youth who are incarcerated

CHECK...!

(2) Be selected as a mentor for the YTI program

CHECK...!

(3) STUDY ABROAD.

Pending...

So, #WhereInTheWorldIsCarmenTryingToGo? As far as God calls her. And, today that place is Ghana, Africa. I dream of studying all over the world so that I can continue to grow into a well-rounded teacher, counselor, chaplain and caregiver with incarcerated youth.

To this end, I want to take advantage of the opportunity to study Landscapes and Legacies of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, African Heritage/Family Lineage tracing
African Women, Religion, and Health, Exploring African Rites of Passage, Rituals of Reconciliation for Persons of African Heritage, African Indigenous Healing and Therapy, African Religious Traditions and Spirituality, Indigenous African Festivals and Ceremonies and African Arts and Aesthetics in Ghana.

Please support me in making this dream come true.

Here's my payment check-list:
1. $300 Deposit due February 28th - DONE!

2. $165 Passport - DONE!

3. $1525 to Book Round-Trip Flight by March 31st

3. $700 Penultimate Payment due April 30th

4. $700 Final Payment due May 30th

The total for the trip's logistics comes to $3,385 for a double-occupancy stay.

This is a two-week pilgrimage during which I will have the opportunity to research, study, and learn alongside scholars, clergy, therapists and professionals to become informed about the social, political, spiritual, and cultural history of pre-colonial, colonial and postcolonial Africa, through firsthand contact and interaction. I would leave July 14th and return, on my birthday, July 26th with much to share. Prayerfully, this will be the first pilgrimage of many.

Will you help me?

Peace and Hope,

Carmen
