Care for Joseph

Donation protected
Hello!

Meet Joseph.

He is the sweetest, kindest kid you'll ever get to know on the other side of the world.

But, at the moment, he's sick. Really sick.

And, he needs our help.

What does he need, you ask?

First and foremost, he needs our prayers. For love, and guidance and God's will.

Secondly, it would be awesome if you would share his story. The more people see it, the more prayers are said. And, the more comments are posted. Since Joseph is in hospital 2-hours away from his village, the only encouragement he receives are the comments we send. Please, show him how many people care for him from all over the world!

And, lastly, he needs to get to the Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi. Joseph is currently in a government-run hospital. On March 1st, the Kenyan government doctors went on strike. Joseph now needs to be transferred to a private hospital 8-hours away to receive care. If you can give, a donation to help Joseph receive treatment at the Aga Khan hospital would be amazing. The funds raised will go directly to the billing department of the hospital for his care.

Backstory: Hello again! I'm Stephanie Dunn. I'm an American who had the privilege of meeting Joseph at a mobile clinic / HIV lecture in his rural Kenyan village in 2007, when he was 7. Both his parents had passed from AIDS related illness a few years prior. He and his younger brother were living with an uncle who couldn't afford to feed them daily or send them to school. He was running away often to find a better life. With the help of my most amazing host family, Joseph and his brother were able to get beds in the local orphanage and attend an amazing school. In 2017, during his freshman year, he became fatigued and had difficulty breathing. After lots of local doctor visits, he was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya. It is there they found the masses in his chest. And, he's been there, mostly, since Thanksgiving. This is where his caring bridge story starts.

Medical info: He has been admitted to the hospital 3 times since Thanksgiving for pericardial effusion, multiple right atrial masses (last echo in November), and multiple mediastinal masses. He recently had a pericardial window completed. The working differential has been TB vs oncologic process (lymphoma). The doctors attempted a needle biopsy, but it was not successful and muscle tissue was sampled. He is scheduled for a 2nd needle biopsy any day now. But, last week, the doctors in Kenya went on strike. With the doctor strike, I am uncertain if the biopsy will happen. And, even if it does, if the radiology, pathology and oncology departments will continue to run in this public hospital.
