Capco Cares- Help Us Give Back

We have chosen to travel to Antigua, Guatemala with IVHQ to volunteer in their Childcare/Orphanage program for one week on behalf of Capco. We chose to volunteer abroad in Guatemala because of the growing percentage of children that are becoming orphans yearly. Once a child is left to a life on the streets their average rate of survival is only four years.  We felt that this would be a good experience in which to give back, but also provide mentorship for these young children and help to hopefully give them a better future.

The childcare program in Guatemala provides individual attention and assistance to children from underprivileged homes and communities. Many children living in these projects have been affected by poor home life, little to no schooling, and alcohol and drug abuse among their families. We will work in centers for impoverished children, orphanages, and schools.  Our work will vary but will generally consist of providing individual attention, education regarding hygiene, assistance with homework, and any other needs of the local staff that we will be supporting.  Our volunteering will play an important role to improve the educational, emotional, and hygienic conditions of the children.

While our desire and motivation to participate in this program is great, we are seeking additional monetary support to cover the costs associated with this mission. We are looking for donations to aid in sponsoring not only our program and travel fees, but also to present a monetary gift towards the centers. While we hope that our stay has a lasting impact on the community we will be assisting, we know that it is not enough to counteract the enormous breadth of poverty suffered by these children and their families. It is this truth which has motivated us to initiate additional fundraising support above our own costs so we may lend some financial support to these centers and the children who rely on them for their emotional and physical well-being.
