Help for hunting dogs in Spain (Tanamera Rescue)

Donation protected
Help us (Bera and Lieve) support Tanamera Hunting Dog Rescue In August, we will be walking for a month to help Tanamera Hunting Dog Rescue. 400 kms to raise awareness AND funds for a shelter in need after COVID19 lockdown. Please read below WHY you should support them too. How this all started... Arjan and Jacky, a Dutch couple living in Spain, have been saving hundreds of lives of abandoned hunting dogs for over 12 years. They gave every penny they had to the dogs, without a break, holiday or luxury for themselves. Taking them in their own home, rehabilitating and rehoming them, 24/7, 365 days per year. Hardly the life they had in mind when moving to Spain, as you can imagine. But the corona crisis has effected the shelter badly. More dogs than ever had to be rescued, but fundraising events stopped and donations became less. Sadly the couple’s private savings have gone, and regular help from their supporters is not enough to solve another major problem at the moment! Climate change is making life very difficult. More and more torrential rains have washed away the 2 km track to the house and the tracks to the hunters they visit. Making it impossible at times  ,for weeks, to leave the house with Jacky’s 20 year old (private) car that is not suitable to drive on the muddy dirt track leading to the shelter. After rain, she is not able to go to the vets, pick up dogs, visit hunters, do food shopping or leaving the shelter in case of an emergency, and this will soon put a stop to the rescue work and all they ‘worked’ for so many years. During the last floods, Arjan could not get to work, and in Spain no work means no income, and not being able to pay the bills. Jacky went shopping in the village by foot... an 2x 7 km mountain walk... can you imagine how that could be in case of an emergency? What does the shelter need? A very reliable 4 wheel drive! Suitable for transport cages, the dog trap, and big dogs. Not one of the old huge beasts, that consume more petrol than a plane. Jacky drives approx 35.000 kms per year. Picking up dogs, bringing dogs to airports, vet visits, fundraising, picking up donations like food & blankets, visiting fosterhomes and doing homechecks. As you will understand... being on the road that often and always being responsable for the dogs you drive around, the car needs to be very reliable and well maintained. We are not asking for a brand new car but an older car is not the best option either! Last year, after Arjan lost his car in an accident, the couple panicked and bought an older one, soon realising they were ripped of and had to sell the car for scrap. They lost all their private savings. Leaving them with no trust in cars and without money. In Spain, second hand cars are very expensive and usually not well maintained. This time, they want to do things better... a newer smaller 4 wheel drive (like a Vitara or similar, not looking for top class!), from a good car dealer WITH guarantee. No risk taken! Just a note to explain how life is at the shelter... there is no electricity or running water in the house/shelter. No hot shower after a long day! Life is not a comfortable one for this hard working couple. Yet, when we (Lieve and Bera) asked what they really needed... they told us a vehicle for the dog rescue... the thought of asking for a solar system for their house amd comfort, did probably not even cross their minds! So why should you donate for a Tanamera car? Arjan and Jacky are 100 % VOLUNTEERS, and use their own home to rescue dogs. They have always used their own private vehicles and life savings. No breaks, no weekends away. Would you? This time, they need help as times are very tough at the moment and we want to show them they are not alone. How can you help? By donating! Very easy, just put some money in our account (mention Tanamera) or donate on this fundraising page. We are not asking you to do any of the hard work they do, but only asking for a donation. How about donating the earnings of a days work to them, if you can spare it? Or maybe you did not spend as much as usual during lockdown, and have a few euros to spend? Remember this couple donates 365 days of their lives to the rescue of those poor abused dogs and all of their money.... Thank you for helping them save more lives. We will be walking 400 km to show our support and fundraise for the mobility of these amazing rescuers. Please support us and Tanamera! (We pay our own travel expenses, all monies coming in will go straight to Tanamera) For more info on the rescue center and their dogs.. please visit the Facebook Page Tanamera Rescue
