If anyone is interested, I initially created a facebook page to help garner interest and support - both of these pages have been kept updated simultaneously with donations:

I'm hoping to go Volunteering in Cambodia with Reach Out Volunteers in January 2014. If you'd like more information regarding this company, please visit: www.rovolunteers.com Their aim is to change the world, "one village at a time". I find their cause really inspirational and would love nothing more than to have the opportunity to make a difference, no matter how big or small.

Currently, I'm fundraising money to go towards the "˜program costs' as given by Reach Out. These costs cover any building materials, courses, supervision, tools, blackboards, books, educational items, accommodation for volunteers, meals, bottled water and on land transportation. The majority of these costs go towards materials that are needed to undertake and complete these projects. From their website:

What is included in the cost?
The cost includes
All program accommodation for the duration of the program
3 meals per day. We can cater to vegetarians and for certain types of food allergies
Snacks
Building materials needed for volunteer projects
Education materials used by volunteers in orphanages and village schools
The hire of local skilled trades people to assist in the volunteer projects
Designated activities while you are there
Reach Out Volunteer gifts and donations to the local community
Admission to activities scheduled in the program
Project materials at wildlife conservation sites
The hire of trained wildlife conservation professionals
Certification (if requested) of completion of the volunteer program. This will look great on your resume!
PADI certification for the Cambodian Island program
Transport from your arrival airport to and from the accommodation, provided you arrive and depart at scheduled pick up and departure times. When necessary transport is also provided to and from the work site and to and from scheduled group activities.

What is not included in the cost?
The cost does not include:
International airfares
Domestic airfares that connect you to your international flight
Travel insurance
Any visas
Passport costs
Departure taxes
ALL DONATIONS WILL CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THE INCLUDED COSTS. (Unless you'd like to help me pay for my flights! =))
I'm saving money to pay for the airfares, immunisations, travel insurance etc.

I've been accepted into the Marine Conservation Program and the Elephant Refuge Extension Program. If I'm able to raise enough, I'd also love to participate in the Village Immersion Extension Program.

Harmful fishing practices around some of the islands in Cambodia have lead to the deterioration of the coral reefs and marine life. As part of this program, volunteers learn to dive and map out existing coral reefs, determine where new artificial pods should be placed, build them above ground, then dive down and place them. They also remove any waste in the water - many many tons of rubbish have been removed so far through Reach Out. This should reestablish the fish species that live there and help keep a food source of fish available to Villagers.
One of the recent groups of volunteers removed 5 TONNES of rubbish.

When weather doesn't permit (which I'm assuming will be quite often), I will be helping with the village re-establishment process. This can include teaching villagers about recycling, general infrastructure repair and helping out with the village development program.

After this, the Elephant Refuge extension involves taking care of, gathering food for, and helping the mistreated and unemployed elephants that are too expensive for their former owners to maintain. This allows the owners (in some cases as far as I've been told) to continue having an income from their elephants despite being unable to support them. Many of these villagers live on incomes that are less than $2 a day. In addition to this, these elephants are an endangered species, so volunteers work to create animal conservation areas.

I've raised enough money so far to add a 4th week for the deposit. I'd love to work in the village immersion extension - building houses, establishing clean drinking water sources (approximately only 40% of the people have access to clean drinking water)and possibly teaching in the local school.

The total program costs will be around $4200 (not including flights, insurance, vaccinations, travel gear etc). Of course, I'm willing to contribute as much as I'm able to afford "“ I estimate that the total cost will be somewhere between $6000 and $7000, so I'm saving as much as I can!

Of course, any donations will go directly to the program (I won't keep them!) regardless of whether I raise enough to cover program costs or not.

I'll probably never have the time to do something like this ever again and I love knowing that I can make a difference with your help! No matter how big or small, or for how long it lasts. It would mean the world to me if you could share this page with anyone you know that might be able to help me reach this goal.

I'm successful overall, the group I'm with will be posting an online blog every other day for you to keep up-to-date with our volunteer work!.

Thank you so much for your time and kindness.
If you're able to help out or know someone who's able to, I'd really appreciate it! I truly think this is a great cause.

Also, please be aware that paypal charges 30 cents 4% per donation. On top of that, gofundme receives another 5%.

So when you're donating to this cause, please know that 10% will go towards fees Unless you'd like to donate through another method. In which case, I'd love it if you could either contact me, or click on the "donate" tab on the facebook page (which has all payment options in it!)

Again, thank you so much for believing in me and this amazing cause.
