Calvon Jones' Trinity Transition

Donation protected

On Sunday, November 4, Calvon Jones will be ordained to the ministry of word and sacrament in the United Church of Christ. Calvon graduated from Yale Divinity School (YDS) and is an honorary graduate of Andover Newton Seminary who received the YDS faculty's top award for promise for ministry. He has been called to serve as an Associate Pastor at the esteemed Trinity Church in Chicago.

One of the hidden struggles of divinity school students is the educational debt they bring from college and then continue to accrue during their ministerial preparation. Between school, ordination requirements, and contextual education, students have no time to earn money, yet their financial aid rarely stretches to cover their living expenses. Then, of course, there's moving and starting over in a new city. Andover Newton and Spring Glen Church are working to improve the support provided to Ministers in Discernment in the future. In the meantime, Calvon needs our help.

I feel particularly connected to Calvon's journey because it was the warm reception he received at Spring Glen Church as a Minister in Discernment that caused our family to check out what has become our home church. Plus, he's so warm and wonderful that in the past two years of knowing him, he has become dear to my heart. I know many at Spring Glen Church feel the same way.

Thank you for contributing to this ordination gift from Spring Glen Church to Calvon Jones.
