Support SCMs after Apartment Fire

Donation protected
Dear City Year family,

On the evening of Wednesday, November 15, a fire broke out in the apartment of four of our senior AmeriCorps members. Everyone was safe, but the damage was extensive and they cannot return to their apartment. Additionally, personal property was lost. We have been working to support these ACMs and have short term plans in place for the Thanksgiving holiday break, but they are looking for any support we can provide in securing a new apartment by December 1. They have found several options, but need to commit to several up front costs (first and last month's rent), securing a UHAUL to transport their belongings, and beginning to replace clothing/possessions lost in the fire. Their total costs are estimated at $6,100.

An event like this is tragic and can certainly be overwhelming. City Year adheres to AmeriCorps guidelines regarding equal compensation for all of our ACMs. This means that any additional compensation must be through private channels. If you are able to donate any amount of money to help this group with the costs of moving into a new place, please feel free to give at the level that is meaningful to you. I will be donating the $6100 directly to the four AmeriCorps members on Tuesday, November 28th so they can secure their new apartment.

Thank you,
