Lessons from London

Hey everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful summer. Let me go a little bit into why I want to take this trip.

This past semester, I made a difficult decision to stop playing basketball and to pursue a career in music. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life. Giving up thousands of dollars worth of scholarship money was not easy to do, but I followed my gut and made the decision. Since then I have learned lots of information about making music and the music business in general. Although the Hip-Pop/RnB market is among the largest in the music industry, it is arguably the toughest to crack. I know that the talent I believe I possess as a songwriter/singer will not be enough to make it. My learning has just begun, and I want to further enhance my knowledge and skill on a global level.

I have wanted to visit London for quite some time because I became intrested in their culture around my freshman year of college. I became a fan of their music culture as well, specifically hip-hop. I didn't know London had a great pulse on hip-hop until I started listening to Jay Prince, an up and coming rapper that caught my attention with his melodic flow mixed with his British accent. I then started to listen to Complexion radio, which consited of a hour mix of hip hop songs mixed with EDM. And of course there is Skepta at the forefront of London's hip-hop society.

From there, I set my eyes on visiting London to experience their culture and their music scene as a whole. I have been wanting to take this trip since the beginning of summer, but there are some roadblocks  in my way. Firstly, being a college student, I don't have the funds to pay for an overseas trip. Secondly, I have been hesistant about the trip in wake of the recent tragedies that have occured in Lodon in the past few months. I recently made the decision to get past my fears, go out on a limb, and do something I should have done a long time ago.... ask for help.

I know this is such short notice, but I know in my heart that I can pull this off with your help. My goal is to raise $1500 by July 21st. I plan to leave by July 22nd and return on July 29th. Aside from visiting common tourist locations, I plan on attending several music gatherings to further expand my musical worldview. To know that Hip-Hop is so impactful on the world makes me excited to find out what people in another country feel about such a beautiful art form that developed in New York.

Here is a link to a Music and Arts festival that I plan on attending.

What ever you can do to help me will be deeply appreciated. Please share this with any family or friends you think will be able to help as well. God bless you all!
