CPS Playground - Fund the Fun!

Help Fund the Fun and build the new playground at Crescent Park School!

We all want the best for our kids or the kids in our community. This is a chance for us all to pitch together and make sure we have a playground at CrescentPark School that our community can be proud of, that lives up to the quality of the school and its students. Help fund the fun, our kids are counting on us!

Background

In December, after two separate safety inspections, Crescent Park School was required to remove the playground structures that were deemed unsafe. Construction crews dismantled several climbing structures and slides leaving only a few swings and one slide for the 250 children who attend the school and other children in our community. The replacement cost for an appropriate size playground for the school is expected to be $111,000. Currently the CPS PTA Playground Committee, the school’s principal, and the school district’s facilities director have worked together to design a new playground and plan to install it this summer.

This project has been brought to the SAD44 School Board and has received their approval. The School Board worked to appropriate $91,000 to replace the playground at CPS, which was approved on May 31st (6:30 PM at Telstar High School)! This $91,000 now allows Phase 1 of the playground to proceed, but an additional $20,000 will be needed to finish the playground design (Phase 2). If all of the additional structures needed for Phase 2 can be ordered and installed at the same time, a savings will be achieved because of the installation costs. Not only will the children of CPS, and the community will benefit sooner from the complete build out of the playground sooner, the project will be less expensive.

The playground at Crescent Park Elementary is used every day while school is in session by at least 250 children. The playground is also used by the Mahoosuc Kids Association for their after school program as well as their summer day camp program. In addition, school grounds are public property so families use the playground when school is not in session. It is essential to the area children and families that it is replaced in its entirety this summer.

This is a time for us to come together as a community to make sure our kids have the best facilities possible. Let's Fund the Fun! If we all pitch in a little it will make a big impact for the Bethel-area students.

Donations for Phase 2 of the project can be made on this page or sent to Crescent Park Elementary PTA, 19 Crescent Park St., Bethel, ME 04217 Attn: Playground Committee. For more information, call the school at [phone redacted]. The CPS PTA is a 501(c)3 organization.
