College Park H.S. Orchestra Tour

Donation protected
The College Park High School Falcon instrumental music program has a rich history of sharing our music through concert tours.  In the past, our tours and participation in International Music Festivals have taken us to performances in Carnegie Hall, New York, the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington DC, and various venues across the country.

Sadly, 5 years ago our program was radically affected by economic down turn and State Budget cuts that led to director turnover and decreased funding to our program.  There were many impacts on our program, including a 75% decrease in concert tours over the past 4 years.

Under the leadership of our music director Jorge Jimenez, our program is now growing and vibrant.  Our motto is "Community Service through music."  Besides bringing musical performances to our community, we share the gift of music with elementary schools in our area.  5 years ago, in response to budget cuts, 4th and 5th grade instrumental music was cut from the curriculum.   Last year, we created the Future Falcons after school music program  to provide band and orchestra instruction free of charge to 4th and 5th grade elementary students.

We are very proud of our ensembles that consistently receive highest marks at music festivals.  Our symphony orchestra, where wind and percussion students join our string orchestra, contains our top students and is a particularly unique musical experience amongst area public high schools. This ensemble receives superior marks at local music festivals and we would like to pave the way to participate in international music festivals.

We want to bring back concert tours, but in order to do so, we need help raising funds to assure that all students have an opportunity to participate.  30% of our student body receive assitance through the school lunch program and many of our middle class families are still recovering from economic hardships.

We are planning a string orchestra and symphony orchestra tour to Florida in April 2015, which will include an exchange performance with a local high school, university clinic, and top music clinics and performances at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando.   The entire trip will cost $118,800.  We have been able to raise $90,000, but we need help to raise the remaining $28,000 by February 15th.   If we cannot raise enough funds for all 72 musicians, then by California Education code, our tour will be cancelled.

Please help us make our goal.  Every musician is deserving, and this tour will pave the way for future tours and opportunities for musical growth for our program.
