COVID-Caused Starvation Threatens India

Tax deductible
Many in India are struggling with hunger and possible starvation because of The COVID-19 nationwide quarantine. The extremely poor, such as orphans, widows and day-labors have been especially hard hit.

One third of the population are extremely poor day-labors who earn tomorrow's food by today's labor. If they do not work, they do not eat. With the lockdown in place, these people cannot leave their homes to work and have no food. They need your help NOW!

Doyona is one such laborer.  She was widowed five years ago when her husband was killed in an accident.  Left with 3 children and no income, she began to beg in order to feed them. One day she was offered a job as a school cleaner and she jumped at it.  With that job, she was able to feed her family. However, because of the a sever lockdown required by the Corona virus, all schools were closed and her income abruptly stopped.  Her family has been without income to buy food for more than two weeks and are struggling terribly. There are countless other families and individuals in the same boat.

Charities across India are stepping up and are fighting to head off the possible starvation of the 460,000,000 poorest people. However, we just do not have the money to purchase the huge quantity of food needed. We are personally receiving hundreds of requests for help every day!

Your help will really make a difference! 100%* of your gifts will go to helping the hungry – not to administration or overhead. Your funds will be used to purchase rice, lentils, potatoes, vegetables and bars of soap, and to distribute them to people who will not eat without your help. (*After the small fee charged by Go Fund Me.)

Open Arms has been working non-stop in India for 35 years, caring for children without parents, educating poor children, and helping widows and others who are destitute in both southern and northern India. $30 will purchase  one month’s worth of simple food and two bars of soap for a small family like Doyona’s, and the widow with her children, pictured below, who received food a few days ago.

With your gifts our people on the ground in India will personally buy and deliver food to those they KNOW desperately need help. You will be caring for people who are suffering.

Thank you in advance for joining us in the fight against Corona virus-caused suffering. Please share this post with as many as possible.
