<div>We are working on a public health initiative to reduce airborne transmission of viruses and keep kids and teachers safer in classrooms by building DIY air cleaners called Corsi-Rosenthal boxes (C-R box) for central Kentucky schools (K-12).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There’s a large and growing body of research on the effectiveness of C-R boxes in cleaning indoor air. Dr. Richard Corsi, Engineering Dean at U.C. Davis, designed the box to reduce the risk of infection from respiratory aerosols that carry Covid, flu, and other viruses. The filters are also highly effective at trapping mold, pollen, and fine particles.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>C-R boxes are a great supplement to the regular HVAC system in any indoor space, helping reduce the buildup of harmful particles that build up when the room fills with people.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>C-R boxes are being used in classrooms and homes across the country as part of an “all-of-the-above” strategy to tackle indoor air pollutants and viruses.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The funds will go towards purchasing the materials to build C-R boxes (MERV 13 furnace filters, box fans, scissors, duct tape), rental space to store supplies, a rental truck to move supplies, and snacks for the volunteers.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Students and community members will assemble the C-R boxes at various classroom events and box-a-thons.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our team and a few generous friends have already built and donated 28 C-R boxes to various classrooms in central Kentucky, and now we are trying to expand our reach.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Deadline:
</div>
<ul>
<li>Our next box-a-thon is scheduled for Friday, March 31 at the University of Kentucky.
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>You can help us buy supplies for this event! What does your money buy?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<ul>
<li>$8.00 = one large roll of duct tape
</li>
<li>$17.00 = a two-inch MERV 13 filter
</li>
<li>$27.00 = one box fan
</li>
<li>$68.00 = a moving van for 6 hours
</li>
<li>$102.00 = materials for one C-R box
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>A separate bank account has been opened for this project. Donations and expenditures will be transparent.
</div>
<div>-----
</div>
<div>* C-R boxes are not a substitute for high-quality masks. Use of this, or any other air cleaner should be a supplement, not a substitute for wearing a mask. High-quality masks, particularly N95 and KN95, are the most effective way to protect your respiratory system.
